MARU OS (OPERATING SYSTEM) IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR THE NEXUS 5

Maru OS lets phones run both Android and Debian Linux, and now, months after being in private beta mode, all Nexus 5 users can put the operating system on their device. Their phone will run like a Linux desktop when it’s connected to an external display, mouse, and keyboard.

It's very similar to the Continuum feature Microsoft introduced in Windows 10 for phones last year. That desktop state will still be preserved after the phone is disconnected from its keyboard and monitor.
The Nexus will run like an Android device the rest of the time. While the OS is only available on the Nexus 5, Maru expects to come to other devices as people pick up on its open source.

HOW TO YOUR FIND YOUR IPHONE USING GOOGLE’S MY ACCOUNT

HOW TO YOUR FIND YOUR IPHONE USING GOOGLE’S MY ACCOUNT

Google launched My Account, a hub that gives you quick access to controls for safeguarding your data and protecting your privacy on Google, last year. The application puts privacy and security tools in one place, including long-standing features like Ads Settings and newer ones like the Privacy and Security Checkups.

All these tools make it easy for you to control your privacy and security from any device. Yesterday makes it exactly one year the app was launched, and while the celebrations were ongoing (I bet there was a lavish party with loads of champagne), some features were also added to the app – three features in fact – to make access to your controls and data protection easy.

Top on the list of features is Find your phone, which will help you locate your phone if it was lost or stolen. In a few simple steps, you can not only locate your phone, but also lock and call it, secure your account, leave a callback number on the screen, and more.

The feature can be used to find lost Android and iOS devices, and soon, you’ll also be able to access it by searching Google for “I lost my phone.” My Account now has a voice feature, making it easier for you to get to My Account just by using your voice.

To use this feature, just say, “Ok Google, show me my Google account,” and you’ll be taken right there, like magic. English is the only supported language at the moment. Other languages will be added soon. Soon, users will be able to easily find My Account by simply searching Google. That is, you’ll be able to simply search for your own name, and if you’re signed in, you’ll see a shortcut to My Account.

“When you entrust your data to Google, you should expect powerful security and privacy controls. These features are just the latest in our ongoing efforts to protect you and your personal information. We’ll continue to make updates based on your feedback,” Guemmy Kim, Product Manager, Account Controls and Settings, stated on Google’s official blog.

Although launched just a year ago, My Account is currently being used by more than one billion people around the world. If you’re not part of that figure, you can start using the app today. It might be a life-saver…you never know!

The Japanese GPS Satellite Been Launched
Latest: Newly Launched Japan GPS Satellite To Guide Self-Driving Cars.
Just of recent, Japan has just fulfilled a key part of its space ambitions, and it will have some important ramifications for everything ranging from self-driving cars down to self-defense. The country, Japan has launched its fourth Michibiki satellite, which expands a "quasi-zenith" system designed to provide greater access to GPS (Global Positioning System) in urban 'canyons' where buildings tend to block signals from lower-orbit satellites. Needless to say, that is vital for autonomous vehicles that need GPS to get their bearings right in a country dominated by sprawling cities.

The military might want it, too. While Japan's armed forces are largely focused mainly on defense, this newly launched fourth quasi-zenith satellite could help those calling on the nation to buy cruise missiles as a deterrent to North Korea. If the North ever launches a strike, Japan could easily use the GPS-guided missiles in retaliation. However, there have been a lot of objections over the militarization of space (Japan banned military uses for 39 years, until 2008), but North Korea's fast-growing belligerence might see the satellite once more find use for combat.

However, as it stands, Japan has plenty of other peaceful purposes, it could help with GPS-guided farm equipment, and importantly, it will help Japan reduce its dependence on American satellites. So finally, the ultimate goal is to operate a cluster of seven Michibiki satellites by the year 2023, which should be enough to offer true independence.

Magnesium Batteries Will Be Safer, More Efficient, And Reliable Than Lithium Batteries.

Magnesium Batteries Will Be Safer, More Efficient, And Reliable Than Lithium Batteries.

As we all know, it is still early days for the promise of safer, energy-dense solid-state rechargeable batteries. However, a team of high esteem scientists at the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research has just discovered a breakthrough of fast magnesium-ion solid-state conductor that will go a very long way towards making non-flammable batteries with more capacity than the ones we have today.

Presently, in current commercial batteries of today, a liquid electrolyte transports the charge back and forth between the available cathode and anode. In fact, this is part of what can make them explode, according to one post from Berkeley Laboratory, where the discovery was made. The team was working on a magnesium battery, which can hold more charge than lithium-ion batteries, but they were not able to find a workable liquid electrolyte. So "magnesium is such a new technology, it does not have any good liquid electrolytes," said the laboratory's senior scientist whom by name is called Gerbrand Ceder. "We thought, why not leapfrog and make a solid-state electrolyte?"

Finally, the researchers settled on magnesium scandium selenide spinel, which indeed has an ion mobility comparable to electrolytes found in the lithium-ion batteries of today. The team also included scientists from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Argonne, who on the other hand provided computing resources and experimental confirmation of the new solid electrolyte's mobility, respectively.
