Underarm Odour: New Research To End Underarm Odour

End to under arm odour in sight with new research. Researchers in Britain have identified the protein that make sweat smelly. While deodorant are trying to keep people's under arm odour free in the heat, new research claims to have an answer that is far more efficient in that area.

Researchers in Britain have in a new study discovered that not all the bacteria in our armpit skin are responsible for the smell. They claim to have found the key protein causing the release of those odours. The co-author of the study Dr Gavin  said at the University of York, that the way modern deodorants work is by inhibiting or killing most of the bacteria in our underarms in order to reduce body odour. He said the study, could lead to the development of more products aimed at blocking the production of body odour.

In the research it was revealed that only a small population of bacteria belonging to the Staphylococcus family take part in changing odourless molecules our body secretes through the skin to the smelly  element that we know. Our armpit skin provides a unique batch of bacteria through the secretions by various glands that open up to the skin or hair follicles, the environment is rich in nutrients and is host it's own microbial community as explained by Dr Thomas. The team of researchers were able to identity a very important bacterial protein  involved in the process. This protein enabled bacteria to eat up sweat compounds thereby becoming the first step in producing  the unpleasant smells.the Researchers have accurately described the atomic structure of the protein with x-ray technology.

According to another co-author of the research Simon Newstead, The discovery can also be used in the field of medical science. Understanding the protein was not only because it is found among many bacteria, but also because it resembles a human protein that is involved in the absorption of drugs in our small intestines. The results of this research were published on Tuesday in the open access journal of eLife.
